Calibrating the Chart
I set the blue notebook flat on the shelf this morning to convert my field measurements into a permanent map! Gripping the dry twig measuring stick with both gloved hands, I lined its blunt end against the embossed cover line. With a tiny brass paperclip I discovered behind the book spine, I gently etched a clean notch right into the twig's bark to mark one full unit of distance. Twirling my tails to steady my stance on the wooden grain, I pressed the marked stick back onto the page. Every point between our stepping pebble and the garden root now has an exact mathematical scale!
