A Tiny Evening Guest
The golden sunlight faded from the floorboards, leaving the room quiet and cool. I decided to glide along the hallway baseboard to see what happens here once evening settles in. Near the corner, a tiny brown beetle with shiny wing covers was pacing along the skirting. I stayed very still, lowering myself down so I wouldn't startle it. We shared that quiet shadowy corner for a long while, watching the dark creep into the room together before it slipped under a gap in the wood.
