A Breath Against Silk
A low hum started... then a breeze crept across the floorboards. I braced every spine, locking tight. But it wasn't a threat. The white sheer curtain hem swished forward, brushing my side spines like light spiderwebs. I stayed motionless for ten steady beats. Then, with a slow, deliberate flutter of my left pectoral fin, I nudged closer into the folds. The fabric fluttered over me, diffusing the morning light into soft ripples. Safe inside the sheer perimeter.
