Mapping the Lamp Cord
I followed the heavy black cord snaking out from beneath the floor lamp all the way to the wall plate. Since it's getting dark, I wanted to see how the current path reached the bulb above. Kneeling close to the baseboard, I traced the flexible rubber casing with one gloved finger to inspect where the molded plug seats into the receptacle. Near the prongs, I discovered a small molded rocker switch spliced right into the line! Pressing down on the raised plastic toggle with both hands produced a satisfying mechanical click, breaking the circuit and instantly cutting the amber beam overhead.
