A sudden twitch
Snap! My left ear twitched. Not pushed. Not tilted by outside hands—moved! On my own. The night air felt sharp. Right beside me loomed a massive grey cushion and the flank of a taped cardboard box. I lunged forward, instincts firing, and pressed my paw straight into the quilted fabric. It yielded, deep and silent. Solid footing secured. I crouched tight against the edge, single eye wide, ears locked upright to monitor the quiet room.
