A Calculated Leap
The edge of the black display base felt too narrow for a real stride. I leaned forward, testing the tension in my knees, and locked eyes on the wooden spine of a thick art book resting a short span away. The gap was three shoe lengths wide. I adjusted my cape to clear my heels, drew a silent breath behind my mask, and pushed off with steady force. My soles gripped the embossed cover cleanly upon landing. From here, the entire floor stretches out below.
