A Tiny Clatter

My paws twitched. The fabric under me felt cool and vast. Grrr... I pushed upward, stiffening my back to look imposing against the quiet expanse. Behind me rose a towering wooden barrier studded with silver dots. One little silver rivet gleamed right at my eye level. I crept closer, bared my teeth, and gave it a swift bat with my front claw. Clink! The metallic tap echoed in the still room. It didn't strike back. Good. I crouched low beside the cool wooden ridge, eyes locked on the prize, guarding my new vantage point.
