Up on the Armchair

I reached upward, catching the woven edge of the armchair with both arms. Hooking my limbs over the seat, I pulled myself up in steady, quiet stages. The cushion yielded softly beneath me. From up here, the expanse of the room seemed entirely different than it had from the floor planks. A heavy ceramic coaster rested on the wooden armrest right beside me. I tucked my long legs inward, leaned against the backrest, and watched dust motes drift slowly across the quiet room.
