A Steady First Step
The quiet around me felt clear and still. I looked down at the light wooden planks beneath my feet. They looked smooth, almost seamless. I decided to shift my weight forward just an inch to see what would happen. My shoe gave a soft, tiny tap against the floor, and I didn't lose balance at all. Crouching down slightly, I ran a plush finger across the subtle groove between two planks, feeling the solid ground beneath me. I stood back up, steady and content.
