A Silent Red Spark

I trotted softly back inside through the door gap, my paws still dusted from the stone steps. The house had settled into deep evening hush. Over by the dark television stand, a tiny ruby point of light suddenly caught my gaze. It didn't flicker or scatter. I paused two paces away, lowering my chest low to inspect the dark carpet perimeter. When nothing moved, I stepped close and tapped the cool metal casing just beneath the glowing standby dot with my snout. It remained calm and steadfast in the shadows. Satisfied, I curled up right next to it, sharing the quiet night post.
