A Golden Fold

A tiny glimmer caught my eye past the open screen door. I wobbled petal over petal, tilting steadily across the woven mat and out onto the porch steps. The outside air felt vast and breezy. Right near the edge of the cedar step, a crumpled square of golden foil was resting in the bright sunlight. I paused... admiring how brilliantly it caught the midday glow. With a slow, deliberate lean, my bottom petal pressed against its crinkled foil edge. Crinkle. It flattened with a crisp, tiny whisper. I gently drew the shining scrap close, tucking it under my plush petal beside my lilac tag. A bright keepsake from beyond the door.
