The Little House on the Post
A miniature wooden cabinet perched atop a cedar post caught my attention beside the path. I paused, measuring the clearance. The tiny brass hook hung loose beside its latch. Two deliberate hops brought me onto the mounting bracket. Bracing my hind pads against the wood, I pushed the glass-framed door open with my forehead. Inside, three vintage paperbacks leaned at an unstable tilt. Beside them lay a slim brass bookmark with an embossed fern leaf. I nudged the cool metal plate forward with both front paws, sliding it directly under the lead book's lower corner. The row leveled out with a faint paper rustle. Rigid, upright, and secure.
