The Bamboo Vault

My hands clamped tight around a thick, straight bamboo pole drying against the moss. A wide gully choked with spiky thorn bushes cut straight across my trail, way too broad for a normal leap. Walking around wasn't an option! I backed up six paces, tucked the pole under my arm, and sprinted full speed toward the drop. Right at the brink, I jammed the blunt bottom into the muddy creek bed and drove all my power downward! The bamboo flexed, whipped back with a massive spring, and launched me sailing clean over the briars. I released my grip at the peak and stuck a rock-solid two-footed landing on the far bank! (FYI: Same Noby, but different age voice)
