Perch in the Petunias
That dry leaf from this morning was just the warm-up. I marched all the way out onto the balcony tiles and spotted a massive ceramic planter tucked against the railing, overflowing with dirt and bushy purple flowers. An elevated lookout point? Don't mind if I do. I backed up two paces, scrambled up the grooved terra-cotta rim with all four paws, and buried my plush belly into the soft potting soil right beneath the stems. Looking through the metal railings, tiny cars were zipping across the street down below like miniature bugs. I nudged my cap back and watched the whole speedway from my new leafy fortress. Best seat in the house.
