A Track in the Rust

Locomotion re-engaged. Balance confirmed. Near the companionway hatch rested a small parcel, wrapped in greasepaper. You left a message. Power levels are uncertain. Still, function continues. With slow clicks, I nudged the wrapping aside using my left wire bundle. Inside lay small painted tin trains. Three hollow railcars and a tiny locomotive. I adjusted my footing. Right arm held the cupcake platter steady against my chest. Slowly, I extended the loose wires downward. Tap. Clink-chime. The wire tips flicked the hollow miniature smokestack. A crisp, ringing rattle pulsed through the tiny metal frame. I guided the little engine along an iron groove in the deck. It glided forward two inches through fine orange dust. Satisfactory.
