A Sheltered Bookmark
A tiny pressed-flower bookmark was slipping out from a glossy art magazine by the wicker rack. I stopped, watching quietly to make sure the ceiling fan wouldn't send it fluttering. The paper was translucent and thin, holding tiny dried purple petals inside. Moving with slow, steady shuffles, I leaned my plush tummy gently against its delicate edge. I guided the fragile slip inward, nudging it millimeter by millimeter until it rested fully within the pages, shielded from any passing draft. Now the quiet blossoms stay safe inside their paper haven.
