Breaching the Perimeter
That coffee table was fine for a quick breather, but staying pinned down in the living room wasn't in the cards. I spotted the open window ledge glowing with morning light just above the back of the couch. Clambered up the fabric cushions, caught my boot on a woven seam, and vaulted right onto the painted wooden sill. Right through the screen, there's a sprawling alley below and rooftops stretching out forever. Best of all, I salvaged a bent metal paperclip wedged in the sash groove—perfect makeshift lockpick for whatever comes next.
