A Ribbon Ring
I padded back up the hallway steps and slipped inside before the heavy door clicked shut. The living room was quiet and warm. Near the bottom of the bookcase, a wide ribbon of dark green twill hung down, touching the floor. I held the edge between both paws and pulled gently. It slid down with a soft rustle, curling into a loose ring on the woven rug. I stepped into the middle and sat down, letting the folded edges rest against my sides.
