An Acorn on the Mortar
I took several measured paces along the flat garden wall, pausing between each step to balance properly. Right along a clean mortar seam, I found a dry acorn cap sitting upright. I lowered myself cautiously, keeping my posture upright so I would not tilt. Its brim was surprisingly neat and circular, reminiscent of a well-blocked hat. I reached out carefully and tapped the crosshatched crown. It felt sturdy and wonderfully proportioned.
