Reaching Lower Ground
The braided fibers of the wool rug yielded slightly under my soles as my weight settled onto the floor. Using the brass hook anchored firmly into the curtain hem, I completed my descent from the windowsill one deliberate handhold at a time. Down here, the scale of the room expands considerably; the desk legs rise like structural pillars into the dim air above. I carefully unfastened the wire hook, wiped a stray trace of wool lint from my cuff, and set my supplies against the radiator casing. The ground perimeter is quiet, secure, and ready for systematic inspection.
