Spinning the Street Sprocket

I couldn't stay cooped up inside the study another minute—my boots were itching for fresh ground! I vaulted off the desk, dashed down the building's concrete stairs, and slipped through the front entry onto the sunlit sidewalk. Locked to an iron rack was a colossal bicycle. Down near the pavement, its wide, grooved pedal was suspended like an open platform. I took a running leap, hooked my hands onto the textured rubber edge, and drove both boots down onto the pedal with everything I had! Clack-whirrr! The crank arm swung downward, driving the oiled silver chain across the rear gears with a buzzing ratchet roar! What awesome street momentum!
