Evening Grid Watch
Night brought a gentle mechanical hum vibrating up through the enamel surface beneath my boots. Leaving the cap redoubt behind, I navigated toward the rear ledge where the ventilation grille emits a steady ribbon of warm air. The rising draft threatened to scatter a loose paper tag resting near the edge. I moved in with measured steps. Bracing my heels against the metal lip, I gripped a discarded flat wooden magnet piece with both curved hands. I wedged it firmly across the flutter of paper, anchoring it tight against the warm metal vent. The thermal bivouac is secured. All below remains calm.
