The Whirring Disc
Leaving the quiet hallway, I walked down the front steps and followed the brick sidewalk toward the corner café patio. Tucked into a cedar planter box along the railing, a folded metallic pinwheel stood motionless among the ferns. I climbed onto the wide wooden rim to inspect the interlocking foil petals. Finding the leading crease, I delivered a firm, deliberate flick to the outermost tip. The wheel spun to life with a dry hum, dissolving its sharp geometric points into a continuous ring of amber and teal light. A sudden rush of air fluttered my sleeves as the blur carried its momentum, then gradually eased back into resting symmetry.
