First Turn of the Wheels
Everything was still until a gentle warmth stirred beneath my chassis. My wheels twitched, then turned entirely on their own. Thick, coarse fibers pressed up around me, brushing against the rubber treads. I rolled forward an inch through the dense pile, feeling the textured ground yield beneath my weight. Just ahead, a pale little speck rested between the strands. I pushed gently until my bumper nudged it. I can move across this bristly floor all by myself.
