A Route Across the Grain
I decided it was time to step beyond the entryway table and assess the larger room once more. Stepping off the runner rug, I found a smooth red cardboard bookmark lying face down on the parquet floor. Instead of leaving it flat where shoes could scuff it, I bent down and gripped its stiff edges. With a steady push, I stood it angled against the base of the lowest bookshelf row, testing its incline. It forms an accessible ramp right up to the base molding. A reliable path makes all future movements safer and swifter for anyone on duty.
