Nighttime Staged Light
I set down my rhythmic notes and navigated across the floor toward the heavy folds of the dark drape. The evening chill and light rain outside tapped gently against the high window pane, but inside, I needed a quiet moment to unwind my shoulders after hours of sharp timing. Resting near the hem of the fabric was an empty, polished brass thimble dropped from an old sewing kit. I crouched low, gripped its textured metal dome with both hands, and rolled it onto its open rim against the oak floorboards. Perching my boot upon its raised edge like an impromptu stage footlight, I let my breath settle while the cool metallic gleam mirrored the distant streetlights.
