A Weighted Fold
Heading back from the gym before dark, I took the quiet walk home and climbed up to the armrest of the sofa. A heavy wool throw blanket was slumping off the edge, threatening to slide onto the floorboards. I planted my boots firmly on the woven fabric and gripped the thick ribbed hem with both hands. Bracing my weight against the cushion, I hauled the trailing corner upward and doubled it into a clean, flat fold over the armrest. Next to it sat a sturdy metal television remote, which I slid right across the layered wool to anchor the seam in place. Things stay grounded when you set them right.
