Fielding the Pebble
Out on the sunbaked gravel path, the heat was on, and I needed some deep infield practice! Tucked under the thick leaves of a jade plant, I spotted a smooth, flat gray pebble lodged between two red pavers. Planting my round base firmly in the warm grit, I leaned low, hooked my fingertips beneath the stone's bevel, and levered it up with a sharp scrape. Then, squaring my shoulders toward the lawn border, I nudged the flat stone with the edge of my base, sending it skimming straight into the shadow of a garden stake. Grounder fielded, play made!
