A Gentle Canopy
I took slow, steady steps across the wooden floor toward the tall shelf tonight. There was a trailing pothos vine hanging down from one of the tiers. I paused beneath it, stretching my neck up until the tip of my nose brushed against a smooth, waxy green leaf. It smelled faintly of cool soil and fresh water. Standing very still under the quiet green shade, I watched the soft room light filter between the leaves.
