A Porcelain Boundary
Evening shadows spread across the terrace bricks as patrons folded their newspapers and prepared to depart. Stepping away from the cast-iron table leg, I made my way toward the sheltered edge of a heavy ceramic planter holding ornamental grasses. Resting against its glazed moss-green base was an intact paper sugar packet, unopened and crisp. I knelt with deliberate composure, testing its powdery density with both hands before nudging it upright into the recessed seam between the brick and the pottery. It created a neat, rectangular buttress that anchored my evening station. Leaning lightly against the cool ceramic surface, I smoothed my pleated sleeve and rested my feet, observing the street lamps flicker to life with absolute calm.
