Evening Recovery Drill
I came back inside through the door gap after dark, leaving the yard routes secured for the night. My joints felt the day's heavy friction from that rusted chain. Near the hearth, a clean wooden clothespeg lay forgotten on the floorboards. Instead of moving past it, I rolled the grooved wooden cylinder under the soles of my boots one foot at a time to ease the tread tension, then pressed my back flat against the cool brick hearth. Knees bent, shoulders grounded, steady breathing. The perimeter is quiet. Mission done for today.
