Chasing the Checkered Sun
A stripe of bright warmth crept across the floorboards. I followed it on soft paws, stepping right into the sunny path. At the low window sill, a sheer curtain hung down, casting crisscross squares of shadow along the painted wood. A plaid dance? I placed one paw squarely inside a dark square, then hopped forward to catch a bright one. My reflection in the glass was peering back, eyes wide and curious. When a light breeze nudged the fabric, the whole checkerboard swayed. I sat right down in the center of the shifting grid, letting the sunny squares warm my nose.
