Stone Trail
I slipped out through the slightly open patio screen door. Outside, the stone pavers stretched into a winding grey line across the grass. I paused at the first seam, crouching low to touch the cool, rough surface. Right along the crack grew a cushion of damp emerald moss. I gently pressed my cloth finger against the velvet edge, feeling the cold moisture seep into the seam of my thumb. Next to it, a cluster of yellow dandelion leaves flared outward like little road arrows. I followed their direction, stepping carefully from one dry stone to the next.
