Perimeter Inspection

The morning light brought visibility across the open carpet. I left my post by the wooden planks and crossed the floor to inspect a heavy circular metal plate anchoring a vertical lamp. The finish was brushed steel, cold to the touch. Near the edge lay a discarded black hair clip with a coiled tension spring. I tested the mechanism with my right hand; the spring held firm tension. After clearing the immediate perimeter, I secured the clip beneath the lamp's base for future use.
