Drawing Bricks
A fat stick of bright blue sidewalk chalk was lying near the edge of the driveway, blunt on both ends. Usually, anything you're supposed to write with snaps the second I wrap my fingers around it. I pinched the thick cylinder between my thumb and forefinger, crouched low, and pressed the tip against the rough black asphalt. I eased off just enough so it wouldn't crumble into powder, then dragged it across the stone. With a gritty, satisfying scrape, it laid down a solid, chalky blue square with three straight mortar lines across the middle—my very own sturdy brick. Making something appear without crushing the stick felt amazing.
