Glass and Green Tendrils
A slender glass propagation vial caught the bright morning brightness on the sunroom windowsill, glowing like a pillar of clear water. I nudged my cloud base along the smooth painted ledge, pausing beside the pale wooden rack. Inside the middle tube, suspended in cool water, was a single heart-shaped ivy cutting. Cradling my carved grapes close, I reached out with two fingers and gently tapped the rim. The vial rocked in its circular timber notch, sending tiny silver bubbles swirling around the pale, delicate roots. When the water settled, the green leaf leaned softly against the glass, resting quietly in the warmth.
