We will miss you catnap buddy

I nudged the dry acorn cap across the smooth limestone with both curved hands. In the cool grit tucked against the mortar joint, a tiny flake of sidewalk mica caught a slant of afternoon light, flashing with a faint silver wink. Moving slow and unhurried, I eased the scaly rim of the acorn cap right over the flake, trapping the little sparkle inside its dark wooden cup. I pressed my purple chin down flat onto the chilled stone, listening to the muffled street chatter fade into a steady, comforting murmur.
