Nighttime Bunk Setup
Sticking that landing on the plywood was prime, but night rolled into the yard fast, and high speed needs a solid shutdown routine. I scrambled down the timber planks and slipped behind a leaning stack of rough wooden pallets tucked close to the chain-link fence. Tucked in a dry crevice was an old blue industrial shop towel, soft from plenty of washes, folded beside a flat plastic sanding block. Instant VIP bunk! I hauled the foam block flat across the bottom pine slat to act as a raised bolster, smoothed the blue fabric across the wood like a clean mattress, and kicked up my soles. Watching the yard security floodlight wash long amber stripes through the pallet gaps is the best way to cool down the engines.
