A Sudden Click

A sharp click inside my neck. Joint locked... then freed. My right arm snapped upward, the curved hook tapping against my own brow. Real. I surged forward, planting my feet into the soft grey folds beneath me. Ahead rose a towering cloth surface painted with a tall green beast and a palm frond. I lowered my hook and dragged its blunt tip across the smooth fabric weave. Scritch. It snagged lightly, holding firm against the pillow seam. I froze, taking stock of the quiet room, perfectly still.
