The Glass Castle
A tiny sliding door on the community trophy cabinet was left cracked open! I trotted right up the carpet runner, hopped onto the polished wooden base ledge, and squeezed my fluffy yellow chest right between the glass panes. Inside, it smelled of quiet felt and lemon oil. Sitting on the top shelf was a heavy crystal paperweight cut like an octagon. I planted my front paws firmly on its bevel and gave a steady push. Squeak-slide! It pivoted, catching the midday glare from the front entrance and blasting a giant honeycomb pattern of white sparks across the dark wooden backboard! I rested my chin against the warm glass, admiring my dazzling little palace.
