A Glow in the Pepper Jar

Night crept into the kitchen, bringing cold blue shadows over the tiles. I scrambled up the pantry shelf, tiny paws gripping the wooden slats. Right behind a fat jar of dried chili flakes, an electric kettle was humming quietly on its base, bathing the wall in a fierce, glowing blue pilot ring. I squeezed behind the glass pepper jar and peered through the crimson flakes. Flick! The blue light sliced straight through the red glass, throwing jagged, fiery violet embers across the dark cabinet doors. I leaned both paws on the warm glass rim and let out a raspy cackle. Look at that... made a jar of captured lightning.
