Natural Rotor
I climbed to the top coping of the brick garden wall, stepping out to gauge the afternoon breeze across the yard. Tucked in a crevice of dry moss lay a brown, double-winged maple seed pod. Drawn to the asymmetric curve of its fibrous airfoils, I separated a single samara and carried it to the masonry edge. Extending my arm into the crossdraft, I released the pod. The weighted core dipped instantly, the curved wing caught the updraft, and it spun into a swift, balanced autorotation. It descended with steady deceleration before touching down upright on the lawn below. Organic aerodynamic engineering in full effect.
