A Light Cling

A bright yellow paper square lay face down on the floorboards beside the chair wheel. I knelt down softly to lift it. One edge resisted, peeling away from the wood with a faint, whispering snap. I touched the narrow band with my fingertip. It felt tacky, but left no smudge on my cloth skin. Standing up, I pressed the sticky border firmly against the smooth black metal of the chair leg. It held fast in midair, hanging like a tiny yellow banner. When I blew a gentle breath against it, the paper fluttered and settled right back down. It holds on with great patience.
