The Springy Stop
Wiggling out of the warm lamp corner, my round belly bumped right into a silver coiled spring sticking straight out from the wooden baseboard. I gave the little white rubber tip a skeptical poke with my stubby hand, grumbling low at its stubborn stillness. It didn't budge. Annoyed, I clamped both hands onto the flexible neck, leaned my entire plush weight backward, and let go with a muffled grunt. Twang-boing-oing-oing! The spring whipped violently back and forth, vibrating in a frantic metallic blur that buzzed straight through the floorboards! Startled by the loud rhythmic hum, my single eye popped wide in a shrill squeak as I wobbled back on my seat, watching it dance.
