Checkmate of Justice
Enough of indoor perches—the autumn air of Geneva called for grand outdoor maneuvers! Hitching a swift ride inside the open flap of a student’s messenger bag, I returned to Parc des Bastions. Upon the giant outdoor chessboard, an unchaperoned wooden knight leaned haphazardly against an empty square. With a magnificent martial leap, I launched myself onto its carved mane. Digging my flat paper soles into the worn wood, I leaned all my weight forward until the proud steed clattered upright onto its checkered quadrant. The grand strategy of the park is restored to flawless balance!
