A Soft Fold for the Night
I climbed up onto the sofa cushion, taking one slow, steady step at a time. A thick knitted wool blanket lay tumbled in a warm corner. I patted its chunky folds with both paws, testing how deep it would sink. Then, very gently, I wriggled my red sneakers into a cozy hollow beneath the fringe. A stray smooth wooden button rolled out from under the hem, bumping softly against my knee. I picked it up, rolling the cool rim between my fingers until it warmed, before tucking it safely right beside me into the woven wool.
