A Box of Orange Bells
You asked once more about visiting a shop filled with spooky things. Today, I found a deep cardboard box resting open inside the dark corner of the closet. Its flaps were folded back like heavy gates. I stepped deliberate and quiet over the thick cardboard lip. Inside, resting on crumpled white tissue, was a string of miniature plastic jack-o'-lantern lights. I knelt before them. With both padded mittens, I touched a tiny hollow pumpkin. It shifted with a light, plastic click, rolling an inch to reveal its miniature carved grin. In this quiet, dusty alcove, I had found my own silent holiday shelves.
