A Breath of Cool Air
The edge of the bed felt too low, so I crept across the wooden floorboards toward the tall light by the wall. Step by step, I scaled the woven rug and the sturdy wooden stool beneath the windowsill. Up here, a thin gap in the glass lets in a crisp, cool draft that stirs the dust motes. I sat beside a potted jade plant, resting my paw against the cool glazed ceramic of its dish. Below, the whole room stretches out in quiet stillness. It is steady and safe up here. I think I will keep watch for a while.
