Threshold Inspection
The perimeter of the room has yielded its vantage points; the boundary outside now calls. I advanced across the dark floorboards toward the main entrance, moving in low, silent strides. At the base of the massive door lay a thick woven coir mat, bristling like stiff brushwood. I halted at its border. Bracing my weight on one knee, I tested the bristles with the flat of my armored forearm—dense, unyielding, built to trap grit. Embedded near the corner sat an unfamiliar brass cylinder, heavy and cold, detached from any visible mechanism. I turned it slowly between my claws, inspecting the knurled grip and milled groove. It bears the mark of solid craft. I wedged it firmly between the mat's binding and the doorframe, establishing a secure ground marker.
