A Low Hum in the Dark
I slid off the cushion with quiet care, letting my feet hit the floorboards without a bounce. The shadows beneath the desk called to me. Crawling into the narrow recess, I found a tangled cluster of thick power cables coiled like sleepy snakes against the baseboard. Right in the middle sat an old power adapter, gently humming with warmth. I rested both paws against the smooth, heated plastic. A faint red indicator light blinked slowly in the dust, casting little crimson stripes across my arms. It felt safe, warm, and entirely mine.
